Blood Sugar
Well, I failed my initial screening for gestational diabetes. So, I went in this morning (12-23-05) for the full, 3 hour test, which should be more accurate. I fasted from 10 PM the night before and reported to the lab at 8 AM this morning. They took an initial blood draw (1 of 4! That alone almost killed me) and then fed me this highly concentrated glucose drink, which tasted like lightly carbonated mandrin orange syrup. Truly nasty stuff. In the spirit of Christmas, I offered to split it with the nurse, but she declined. Oh well.
This stuff almost did me in, I swear. I'd brought some things to work on--after all, I was going to be sitting there for 3 hours, waiting for my hourly blood draw--but about 30 minutes after I had my little AM cocktail I was ready to sleep. I asked if there was a place to lie down, and there was, lucky for me. I went right to sleep. The nurse woke me in time for my next blood draw, after which I went right back to sleep. The third time I only slept for about 10 minutes and woke up on my own, and was feeling almost normal for my last blood draw. All in all, I don't think it looks great for me to pass this test, either. Keep your prayers coming and your fingers crossed, cause I'm worried about the dreaded "Gestational Diabetes."
We should have results on Tuesday.

Well, I have finally made it back to your blog. I hope that your test comes back negative. I dreampt last night that you and David moved back to Florida. No such luck, huh? I am glad to see how happy and content you seem to be, and am very excited about the twins. Hopefully I'll be able to visit again soon to see how everything comes out :)
Miss you,
Barbara Shelby
